For more sustainability:
Zeitfracht GmbH will no longer use foil for all self-printed books in future

Erfurt, July 5, 2022

Zeitfracht GmbH is now advocating greater sustainability in book production. With immediate effect, the media logistics company will no longer use protective film when shipping its entire range of books, which are printed at the logistics center in Erfurt.

Sustainability has a long tradition at the family-run company Zeitfracht: the topic is viewed holistically and all decisions are made according to ecological, economic and social criteria. This basic attitude is now also reflected in the company's entire print-on-demand production.

The print-on-demand process, in which the books are produced at the Erfurt site together with our cooperation partner CPI, is powered exclusively by green electricity. The process also avoids overproduction and waste, as all books are only produced to order via the book trade. There are also no transportation routes between the print shop and logistics, both of which are combined at Zeitfracht's Stuttgart site. Storage space is also not required. This makes it possible to significantly reduce theCO2 impact on the bottom line.

Dispensing with foiling is the next step in the sustainable production process chain. "We have to use valuable resources sparingly. This means using paper efficiently on the one hand and avoiding packaging waste on the other. I am delighted that our PoD production is now making an important contribution here. This is not only part of our company's philosophy, but also in line with what the market expects of us," says Kay Wissendorf, Head of Print on Demand at Zeitfracht.

The print service provider CPI, which operates the print shop for Zeitfracht in Erfurt, also reinforces the sustainability efforts. "We take our social and ecological responsibility very seriously, which is why we offer publishers climate-neutral printing of their products. The possibility ofCO2 compensation is determined individually depending on the book design and print run. Theamount of CO2 can then be offset in various internationally certified sustainability projects. Publishers can use the First Climate logo to show the end consumer that part of the proceeds go towards climate protection," adds Robert Höllein, Managing Director of CPI buchbücher.de.
